National Iwi Chairs Forum files court proceedings over RMA reforms
The National Iwi Chairs Forum has filed court proceedings seeking clarification on how the Crown must uphold Treaty of Waitangi settlements as it pushes ahead with major resource management reforms.
The action has been brought by forum member and Waikato Executive Chair Tukoroirangi Morgan, who said iwi leaders have lost confidence that the government understands or intends to protect the integrity of Treaty settlements.

Whatever the Ngati Paoa situation it tantalising. Can anyone elaborate?
11th. The situation in Auckland is curious. The trace descendants of every tribe which was hounded and eaten out of occupation in the area over the centuries, terminating in a small group of mainly Ngati Whatua and pet remnants of a few other tribes when the Treaty brought- stability, All claim to be and have been recognised as mana whenua warranting a say in paid consultation and associated extortion opportunity created by modern development proposals..The conquered tribes want a mana whenua rating. Contestable whether this should be based on the numbers slain or suffered slain (and associated custom)
And prominent non maori health leader Sir Cam Sission has filed a human rights complaint to the UN over decades of "systemic discrimination" against non maori in New Zealand.
“Lady Tureiti Moxon has filed a human rights complaint to the UN over "systemic discrimination" of Māori in New Zealand”.
Well, I just forwarded this to the UN for some balance.

Absolutely, good on "Cam" - a counter complaint of this nature with full details why is actually needed. Now what IS needed to sort this out is Government legislation to recognise the correct interpretation of the ToW as per the Littlewood precursor to the Maori version. Continuing to allow the twisted Treaty 'translations' and citing non-existent principles has allowed the increasing apartheid against non-maori. Coalition, go back and fix the root cause of the problem.
Excellent move.
However the commentator is he is one very very brave maori. Assuming the mansion shown is Tamihere's I am astonished it has not been paraded before. The Te Atatu of 50 years ago vs now a clear indicator of maori progress. What has the Auditor General to say about the vast accumulated reserves being rapidly dissipated as contrived executive paymnets beyond the PM's salary. Some of the pre 1840 land purchases were somewhat scamlike, but money value was not fully appreciated. Recent dealings by maori worse and, with values known, vastly more blatant.
13th. Far too little care has been applied to Treaty settlement documents. Gullible and/or infiltrared preparers have set the scene for maori to exploit every possibly advantageous legal interpratation of each word.
Seems some rational common sense exists in the Palmerston North Council. Looks like they have avoided by a hair's breadth art forms with maori protruding tongues and aroused willies everywhere.
Has National had a falling out with the Iwi Chairs? After a lengthy period of quiet, looks like the Iwi Chairs are stepping out of the shadows to be politically active in their own right and to once again establish a higher media profile.
I guess a litmus test would be to see if they have cancelled Luxon's honorary membership?
At least now if parents are fed up wih school time fritterd on pro Treaty propoganisng they canot be blocked with a formidable response.
14th ... Re: "Some schools are defying the government's removal of their Treaty of Waitangi obligations" - As I recently said here: "The Act may have been 'corrected' but I'll bet the indoctrination in schools perpetuates regardless and without any form of corrective action by the Educ Minister or the Educ Ministry. If I am correct, the Minister had to be dragged kicking and screaming to amend the stupidity in Sect 127." - I'll say again, there will be no change to the status quo and certainly no corrective action or enforcement by the Ministry.
"A 10-year rāhui following Tongariro's devastating wildfire is causing confusion according to the Department of Conservation?"
So the "blatant Iwi land grab" is causing confusion is it.
14th: re 10yr rahui - NZ is a secular democracy. This spiritual rahui stuff is over the top. If it’s your religion and you really are gullible enough to believe in it fine, you have your precious rahui, but stop forcing this bogus stone age stuff on the rest of us. We’re well and truly over it.
15th: "Kaipara council’s swearing in ceremony opens with karakia" - well the dollop of commonsense did not last long did it?
Oh look - it’s another charitable trust! Are we morphing from being a nation of small businesses to a nation of charitable trusts? Don’t we already have so many charities per head of population that there’s one charity for less than every 200 people? What on earth do they all do? Where does their funding come from? Have charities become some sort tax evasion loophole maybe? Something just doesn’t feel right. The balance seems way out of whack.
Charitable Trusts suit the mantra of the social justice (= tax payers fund everything) warriors.
