Net Zero Watch Samizdat: Parties clash over energy costs as Farage and Conservatives back Cheap Power Plans

Farage backs Net Zero Watch’s calls to cancel AR7 contracts

Nigel Farage put cheap energy at the heart of his newly launched economic agenda this week. As part of his plans to reduce the cost of energy bills, Farage singled out AR7 and said they would lock the UK into high electricity prices for 20 years. He said: “We have given notice to those companies [wind developers and investors] that if' we’re in government we will scrap those [AR7] contracts.”

Conservatives launch their Cheap Power Plan and declare an Oil & Gas Emergency

This week Claire Countinho launched the Conservative Party’s Cheap Power Plan. Coutinho posted this useful video as part of the campaign. It sets out a clear path to cut electricity bills by 20 percent by removing unnecessary carbon taxes, ending long term subsidy contracts and halting the latest offshore wind auction. Elsewhere, Kemi Badenoch has declared an oil and gas emergency and launched a campaign to “get Britain drilling again”.

Reeves considers cuts to green levies

The Guardian reports that Rachel Reeves is considering cutting green levies in an effort to bring down the cost of bills. The Chancellor is hoping her focus on reducing energy bills will help bolster Labour’s slump in the polls, dent the appeal of Reform UK and mitigate the impact of widely expected tax rises in the autumn budget.

Starmer concedes that the “climate consensus is gone” at COP30

Sir Keir Starmer has admitted that the “consensus is gone” on climate change, and that cross-party unity has splintered both in Britain and globally, in a speech to the Cop30 summit in Brazil.

UK climate aid scam exposed

Starmer’s attendence comes as news has emerged that taxpayers are spending £200m on an international “climate aid” scheme to help some of the world’s biggest companies achieve Net Zero, despite civil servants admitting it could be seen as “greenwashing”.

EV drivers to be stung with pay per mile charging

Electric vehicle drivers will be hit with a new pay-per-mile tax in the Budget, under current plans, to be announced by the Chancellor on Nov 26, drivers of electric cars will be charged 3p per mile on top of other road taxes.

Slump in wind speeds costs green energy giant £236m

Falling wind speeds across the UK and Europe this year have cost renewable energy giant Ørsted £246m. The slump in wind speed continues a disastrous year-long weather trend that is undermining the company’s longer-term profits and forcing Ed Miliband to rethink his assumptions for offshore wind expansion.

US solar giant files for bankruptcy

Solar power generator Pine Gate Renewables has filed for bankruptcy in the US. The company operates more than 100 solar generation facilities, producing 2 gigawatts of power, and has over 30 gigawatts in its development pipeline. Analysts say the removal of clean energy tax credits in President Donald Trump’s budget, as well as arduous permitting and interconnection delays, have collapsed the value of renewable projects.

Etcetera…

Andrew was on Talk TV to talk about the scandal of climate aid and the news that EV drivers will charged on a pay per mile basis.

Maurice was also on Talk TV to discuss declining wind speeds and to talk about the North Sea. GB News to talk about Bill Gates’ recent u-turn on climate alarmism and he took part in a GB News studio discussion about COP30.
