Mike's Minute: The Government have read things right

So, one poll tells us something by not really moving and another poll tells us something by being badly misrepresented.

The TV1 news numbers last night show that essentially the Government is travelling well, most parties are stable, the Greens are down a bit, but its all, so far, within the margin of error. Nothing really has changed.

JC: The ‘Pull the Other’ One Poll

It is my understanding that at 6 o’clock each night Television One presents an hour of news. Anyone tuning in at 6pm on Monday to watch would have needed to check their timepieces. The lead story on their poll was more akin to a documentary than a news item. I didn’t watch the full 15-minute episode as the results of the poll were so out of kilter with reality to make it laughable. They might have been reflective of the channel’s nightly news narrative but in no way did they mirror the thinking of those who elected this Government.

Well, the 1News Verian poll released last night shows that support for the coalition government, after seeing an operation for a few months, has dropped since election night. Hardly surprising. Well, to my mind. Anyway, clearly there were others who were simply gob smacked and amazed, but on to them in a moment.

There should be no surprises in the latest 1News poll, released yesterday, that shows support for the coalition has slumped. No surprises here because the Media Party has been on the attack since the Government was formed, hostile to everything because their preferred parties were rinsed in the election.

1News, as part of their finance debate between Grant Robertson and Nicola Willis, polled people to seek their opinions on paying for poverty reduction and climate change. The debate was an unedifying spectacle that illuminated no one but the poll results were as anyone would have expected.

The first part of the poll was about whether or not voters think NZ is on the right track or the wrong track.
