With that warning, the best campaign posts I have seen are Erica Stanford’s.
It is difficult to talk straight to a camera and be authentic. It is even harder to explain a complex message.
Stanford does both.

Then wonder with me.
If the National Party caucus had accepted Christopher Luxon’s challenge to replace him and chosen Stanford, would we now be seeing Erica mania?

How good.
Yes we would.
Luxon won Botany in 2023 with a majority of 3999 , or 52.5% of the vote. Stanford won East Coast Bays by 8764 votes, or 54.9% of the vote. How would each fare if National voters swung to ACT or NZ First, or just did not turn out, allowing the Labour candidate to win the seat. Arguably Luxon would be more likely to lose his seat than Stanford, and his list position of #1 would not be a get-out-of-jail-free card, given the state of the polls. Maybe we can now understand his enthusiasm for 2 ticks for National. Stanford would therefore seem better placed to weather the storm and hold her electorate seat, so perhaps National already has a new leader waiting in the wings. Luxon's failure to win a seat would then result in his refusal to negotiate with TOP becoming irrelevant. Stanford as the new leader would be free to deal with them as she saw fit. Another reason to give National the party vote. So, if all the stars align, don't be surprised to see a Confidence and Supply Agreement with TOP on the table, in exchange for a meaningless Ministerial position outside Cabinet. Stranger things have happened at sea.
Erica would embrace He Puapua in a nano-second - after all, they're "our Treaty partners" - according to her. Does anything more need to be said?
