Michael Reddell: Still waiting for a Governor

Today, 5 August, is five months since the shock resignation – or, as now seems much the most likely, engineered exit – of the then Governor of the Reserve Bank, who disappeared from office that very day, getting generously paid for several more weeks but not working until the official date his resignation became legally effective, 31 March.

Mike's Minute: Who I'd have for the Governor of the Reserve Bank

Can I suggest Jarrod Kerr for Governor of the Reserve Bank?

Jarrod is Kiwibank's Chief Economist.

David Farrar: Adrian Orr resigns

Adrian Orr has resigned as Reserve Bank Governor. I normally try to highlight the good as well as the bad when someone resigns, but I have to admit in this case I struggle.

I welcomed his appointment in 2017. I noted the currency rose on his appointment and that he had a very good legacy at the NZ Super Fund. And this is true – I thought he did an exceptional job at NZSF, and thought he would do the same at the Reserve Bank.

Michael Reddell: Fiction and spin

I had in mind another post for today, but this morning we had something rare: a speech about monetary policy from the Governor of the Reserve Bank, delivered in Washington at a think-tank which appears to have been hosting many speakers this week (in town for the IMF World Bank Annual Meetings). On their schedule, the Deputy Governor of the Banque de France was speaking earlier in the afternoon (some very interesting material in her presentation) and the Prime Minister of Liechtenstein a bit later.

Michael Reddell: Foreign direct investment, the Governor, and governments

(Post refers to my Saturday post on recent reported comments by the Reserve Bank Governor)

Who said this?

The world is awash with savings yet New Zealand does not provide a gateway that makes it easy for that capital to enter the country.
