Clive Bibby: For whom the bell tolls - it tolls for thee

There have been multiple interpretations of this famous Hemingway line - I choose to use it as a characterisation of the US political situation as it uncovers the corruption during the period of hegemony in the years 2021 and 2022 when the Presidency and the House of Representatives were controlled by the Democrats.

Yes, there have been times when multiple control has occurred during Republican administrations but it is hard to remember a time when one party has spent so much of its energies trying to destroy an ex President and his political legacy.

It has been a vendetta, the likes of which we are unlikely to see again because the consequences of that obsessive behaviour will have repercussions that no one envisaged when this witch-hunt began.

That is why I use the title of this piece as a reminder to all who might think such actions are justified that sooner or later, in a democracy if you chose that path, you will be found out.
And when that happens, we might well ask - “for whom the bell tolls - it tolls for thee.”
As each day dawns, we are being treated to more and more evidence that the Democrats in collusion with the MSM had tried multiple times to remove a legitimately elected President and replace him with one that has the opposite credentials. Having achieved that objective, the current administration is trapped in a morass of subterfuge that is all it’s own making.

It appears that the most powerful country in the world has been subjected to a deliberate abuse of the powers invested in its government which has resulted in arguably the worst administration of modern times.

It all began with the failed attempts to remove Donald Trump during the second half of his presidency. He was impeached twice but his political opponents had to gain the support of equally corrupt sectors of the media in order to remove him from office.

It is now emerging that the election was in deed stolen as a result of this collaborative attempt to suppress information proving the corruption of the Biden family. Had it been available to the voters before the election, it is unlikely that Joe Biden would ever have become President. Same goes for the midterms where Democratic candidates won crucial victories based on a lie.

You can’t make this up and thankfully, the truth is emerging that is likely to change the world’s perception of Trump although unfortunately, only in retrospect - finally he will be judged in the way he performed at the job he was elected to do. That is as it should be.

This isn’t an attempt to exonerate Trump the man. If we did that with all candidates for President, it would be hard to find one that doesn’t exhibit characteristics that is evidence they are like us all - in one form or another, failed human beings.

But in most cases we choose people to lead us knowing their human flaws and accept that they will be on notice to represent us in the forums that matter.

Should they fail that test then the people have the right to withdraw that trust and give it to someone else. In the meantime our choices should be made based on what we know to be true - not someone else’s biased construct.

That is the way our democracy should work and why we should not allow the saboteurs of recent years to ever again influence the outcome of an election.

We are better than that.

Anything is possible in the 2023 NZ elections......winning is the only goal.

We know better than that? No we don’t. Think of the dishonesty and disingenuity embedded in this rascist little country and it’s politicians. Strong words -not hate speech- necessary to try to get people to listen and take heed.

Well said Clive. The enemy within is clearly demonstrating how destructive it is to our traditional way of life than a full blooded invasion from a foreign force. Enabled by a poisonous mainstream media giving voice to the destructive minorities, has generated more destruction before the feeble minded can join the dots.

Just to show what we are up against. This column along with a number of others l have submitted to our local rag - the Gisborne Herald, was rejected on the basis that it was based on disinformation gleaned from conservative media outlets.
It is typical of the “Holier than thou”, arrogant, intellectual snobbery that is the MSM throughout the western world.
But what is interesting is that, unlike publications like Breaking Views, these doctrinaire editors use their office to deny the public access to opinions that are deemed to be incendiary in the hands of ordinary intelligent citizens.
So much for free speech. We are being treated like imbeciles by people who have no confidence in the public’s ability to choose who is telling the truth. They are frightened that our point of view would prevail in this contest of ideas.
And they are probably right.

Its easy to see why this column was rejected by the Gisborne Herald. The author obviously gets all his information from watching Fox News !!

The MSM has mischievously demonstrated that’s it’s their sole responsibility to shape public opinion. This overreach distances them from honouring democracy and is akin to the propaganda that was delivered by Joseph Goebbels.

Not so Simon. But would it matter if it was?
Surely the truth is colour blind and an accurate interpretation of what is or has happened irrespective of how or by whom it is exposed.
I read a lot of different commentaries, some of them from people who are idealogically opposed to my interpretation of the facts but l try to work out which information is credible in the circumstances. It doesn’t always come from conservative outlets but they tend to be the most reliable source out of them all.
You can’t do more than that.
