The Herald reports:
Former Labour leader Andrew Little has confirmed he is considering a tilt at the Wellington mayoralty.
This means he is standing. I have little doubt he would crush Whanau. Little would at least be a competent Mayor. However I’m not sure Little would bring the fiscal discipline to Council that is so badly needed. 20% rates increases are obscene.
But this is all part of a plan by Labour to cease back the capital from The Greens. They will be standing very high profile candidates in Rongotai and Wellington Central to try and knock off Julie Anne Genter and Tamatha Paul also.

And that might mean slightly less obviously insane leaders?
At local body level there hasn't been a lot of difference between the Labour and Green councilors, as they all vote in block for the crazy policies that have made Wellington the backwater it is. Hopefully though it will split the left wing vote.
After the local body elections there should be a job available for Tori at the Oxford University Blavatnik School of Government.
Where in all the universe do you get the idea that Little would be a competent Mayor? He made the most appalling mess of some of his portfolios while in government, most notably Health; and the country is still reeling from the mess he left behind.
So from one communist to another communist. That's progress.
