John McLean: BSA BS continues unabated

What’s the best response to the Broadcasting Standards Authority’s unrelenting lawless lunacy?

The Broadcasting Standards Authority is now formally considering additional complaints against The Platform’s founder and CEO, Sean Plunket. Complainant Richard Faneslow’s original complaint is that Plunket’s “mumbo jumbo” epithet to describe Māori tikanga (mystical Māori rules for how Māori should go about daily life) was RACIST. Fanselow’s additional complaints allege that Plunket uses hurty words.

But the people really hurting Faneslow are of course the Ban Shes at the BSA, who are cynically using Fanselow in their crusade to burn down The Platform and ruin Plunket. Faneslow is an egg with a very brittle shell, and the BSA is using him as an ingredient in their childish but sinister endeavour to cook up an omelette to rule the Internet. Plunket has on multiple occasions entreated the public to back off Faneslow. Unfortunate Fanslow doesn’t know who his real friends are. He’s a sad pawn is the BSA’s barking mad death rattle.

BULLSH*T STATE-SPONSORED ARROGANCE

John McLean  12 Jan

The Broadcasting Standards Authority’s war on media channel The Platform is heating up and could well explode in 2026. I’ve covered the BSA’s ideologically driven attempt to assert jurisdiction over The Platform in a previous Substack:

Plunket’s BSA “case manager” is a young woman by the name of Bethan Payne. Bethan’s BSA pronouns are (she/her/ia). It’s readily apparent that Bethan is an adult human of the female sex, so the “she/her” is simply needless Woke virtue projection. The “ia” is more obscure. In the Māori language, “ia” is a third-person singular pronoun covering both male and female references. So I guess Bethan’s “ia” is an expression of solidarity with the Trans “community”.

Plunket’s response to this continuing unlawful harassment from the BSA is that he will simply ignore the BSA FemiNazis. Plunket posted on X:

“They are all from the same person who laid the mumbo jumbo complaint. We will not co-operate in any way with the BSA and do not recognise it has jurisdiction over us or any other non-broadcasters on the internet.”

Fanselow is becoming increasingly distressed and unhinged and none of this nonsense had to happen. The BSA has repeatedly claimed that it has no choice but to consider Fanselow’s gripes, but such claims are just more plain lies.

The Broadcasting Act expressly provides that, “The BSA may decline to determine a complaint…if it considers that the complaint is frivolous, vexatious, or trivial or that, in all the circumstances of the complaint, it should not be determined by the Authority”. Even if the BSA had jurisdiction over The Platform (which it clearly doesn’t), Fanselow’s absurd complaints are clearly frivolous, vexatious and trivial and ones which, in all the circumstances, should clearly be ignored by the BSA.

Fanselow is pitiable: a grown man mummy’s boy with martyr syndrome. But neither is he entirely beyond reproach. It takes a certain type of man to equate himself with the lone protester bravely facing the Tiananmen Square tank. Fanselow is, sadly, precisely what Plunket has labelled him – a Plonker.

In Fanselow’s warped world the women beaters of Auckland’s Albert Park Posie Parker “protest” are the real victims - in Fanselow’s written rants to Plunket, “Albert Park protest clearly shows, eventually those on the receiving end of your loyalists’ abuse will get angry too.” Good grief.

Fanselow’s incessant claims to victimhood and intellectually dishonest (or just dumb) refusal to acknowledge the marvelous merits of freedom of expression are irritating, to say the least. If he’s really as distressed as he makes out, then he is indeed a victim of sorts – a “victim” of his own febrile, incoherent paranoia, and of FAFO (F**k Around & Find Out).

Fanselow’s rants are rife with all the moral and ethical inversions that characterize and blight Wokedom. There’s no-one he disagrees with, and takes aim at, whom he doesn’t accuse of bullying him, including Free Speech Union chief executive, the amiable Jillaine Heather.

Minister of Communications Paul Goldsmith has been dragged, kicking and screaming, into promising to do something about the BSA before the next election. Whether Fork Tongued Paul will do so is doubtful. We’ll see.

In the meantime, all that lovers of freedom, transparency and democracy can do is mock the would-be censors, cancel-culturalists and anti-Democrites. Treat them with all the distain and a derision they deserve. Blank the bastards, and don’t let them get you down. Have fun.
