This is not my headline. It comes from an article by Leo McKinstry in the English newspaper International Express. It had UK in the heading, not NZ but the headline could well apply here, which is why I have used it. The article is essentially about the nonsensical net zero policy.

The article centres on Ed Miliband who is the energy secretary in the recently elected Labour Government. As McKinstry points out, Miliband’s neurotic attachment to the net-zero agenda is driving up energy prices, increasing business costs and undermining economic competitiveness.

Good news on the GDP front is accompanied by news of a $5m govt boost for Supercars (but what about emissions goals?)

First, we were treated to the news (from Finance Minister Grant Robertson) that the economy has turned a corner and New Zealand never was in recession. This was triggered by statistics which showed the economy expanded 0.9 per cent in the June quarter, twice as much as economists’ median forecasts of 0.4 per cent and the Treasury’s forecast of 0.6 per cent in the Pre-Election Fiscal and Economic Update.

Ian Bradford: Speed reduction to 90 kph for all SUV’s

Recently, Len Gillman, Professor of Biogeography at the Auckland University of Technology wrote an article in which he stated that SUV’s should have a speed limit of 90kph. Biogeography is the study of the geographical distribution of plants and animals. 

He began his article by changing the name of our major city to Tamaki Makaurau/Auckland and later the name of the country to the fictional name Aotearoa.  He seems to have a mandate for doing this from somewhere.

His main point for reducing the speed limit for SUV’s was to limit “Carbon” emissions. Presumably he means Carbon Dioxide emissions as Carbon is either a black solid called soot, a grey solid called graphite, or a hard, usually clear solid, called diamond. Clearly then, Professor Gillman is a climate alarmist, who believes Carbon Dioxide is causing global warming and probably adverse weather events. 

Clive Bibby: So there you have it

Nobody, least of all the farmers of this country, should be surprised by the government announcement this week of their immoral plan to drastically reduce the nation’s green house gas emissions for no other reason than the pursuit of a debatable objective that has been abandoned in almost all of the original IPCC supporting countries throughout the western world. Note we don’t include the major polluters of the world who also signed the Paris and Glasgow agreements while having no real intention of participating in this flawed response to the latest round of global warming.

This can’t happen: The plan the Government has to force farmers to pay for their emissions.

They cannot persist with this plan as it is.

In its current form it is going to be a devastating for farming communities…and given how important farming is to our national income… it’s going to be terrible for our economy.

Recently I enjoyed the experience of helping two young local men shear some of my sheep.

The exercise was a mixture of one that helped to restore my faith in our local farm based economy but also another that reinforced my concerns about the contemptuous manner in which the farming industry is being treated by the current government. 

Who would have thought that it would be possible to have two views of the same cornerstone industry that are so diametrically opposed.
