Clive Bibby: The Aspirational Element

It would seem like stating the obvious when identifying one human characteristic that sets individuals apart from their contemporaries.

We can talk about “courage, natural sports talent, above average IQ or abnormal leadership qualities” - to name but a few.

Ian Bradford: Is Carbon Dioxide the Primary Driver of Global Warming?

The current thinking by many in the scientific world is that carbon dioxide is the primary driver of global warming. Carbon dioxide is supposed to capture and radiate heat back to the earth in what is termed “radiative forcing”. The emissions of carbon dioxide coming from the consumption of fossil fuels is supposed to be fuelling the increase in average global temperature.

Ian Bradford: These unusual weather events may be due to the Gulf Stream slowing down

Those who believe that humans are causing global warming sometimes agree, that warming has occurred in the past without the influence of humans but argue that it is the speed of the present warming that convinces them humans are responsible. They either don’t know about, or simply ignore the Younger Dryas. In fact, the Younger Dryas is one important example of an abrupt change. Throughout the Earth’s history there have been serious ice ages. About 14,500 years ago, Earth’s climate began to shift from one of those cold glacial worlds to a warmer interglacial state. However, part of the way through this transition, temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere SUDDENLY returned to near glacial conditions. This near glacial period is known as the Younger Dryas, named after the flower Dryas Octopetala, that grows in cold conditions and that became common in Europe during this time. The end of the Younger Dryas about 11,500 years ago was particularly abrupt. IN GREENLAND, TEMPERATURES ROSE 10 DEG C IN JUST 10 YEARS! (Alley, 2000). Proxy records including lake sediments in Europe, display these abrupt shifts. (Brauer et al, 2008).

DTNZ: U.K. study undermines claim that CO2 drives ‘climate change’

A global analysis of long-term temperature records has found a weak-to-non-existent relationship between carbon dioxide emissions and the rate of global warming, challenging a central assumption behind many current ‘climate policies’.

The study by Queen’s University in Belfast, UK was completed in August of this year.

Owen Jennings: A new angle on an old topic

Do you remember the bad old days, flying out of Los Angeles and suddenly passing through that brown gunge ceiling, looking back and thinking, “heck, was I breathing that stuff?” It's heaps better now.

I recall being at a conference in Taipei on a cloudless day and being unable to read signs on the buildings across the street because of the excessive air pollution. Taiwan spent hundreds of millions to improve their factory emissions, and it worked. Their atmosphere is much cleaner now.

Clive Bibby: At last some common sense based on what is best for all New Zealanders

As a farmer, and conservative voter, having survived two climate events that almost wiped us out, I am relieved and grateful that finally, our Government has the balls to at least partially abandon a policy that would have destroyed our ability to pay our way.

And for what!

Net Zero Watch Samizdat: UK public opinion turns against costly Net Zero policies

UK

Public opinion turns against Net Zero policies

New polling and focus groups for The Times show a surge in climate scepticism. One in four Britons now say global warming is exaggerated, while support for net zero measures — petrol car bans, heat pumps, higher gas bills — has collapsed. Voters increasingly see climate as a low priority beside crime, the NHS and the cost of living, as the political consensus on net zero frays.

Ian Bradford: Further Evidence Human Are Not Causing Global Warming

Further evidence that human emitted carbon dioxide is not causing global warming and no country will ever reach net zero emissions…

At today’s CO2 concentration in the atmosphere of approximately 420 parts per million, CO2 has little ability to absorb heat and is therefore a weak “greenhouse gas.” Its ability to warm the planet and at higher levels of CO2 is very small. As CO2 concentrations increase, its ability to warm the planet decreases rapidly. This means the common assumption that carbon dioxide is the main driver of climate change is no longer true and is scientifically false. More carbon dioxide cannot cause catastrophic global warming or more extreme weather. Neither can methane or nitrous oxide, the levels of which are so small that they are irrelevant to climate.

Chris Morrison: Sensational Findings Point to Hunga Tonga Eruption....

Sensational Findings Point to Hunga Tonga Eruption as Prime Suspect Behind Recent Temperature Spike

In January 2022, a massive underwater volcano called Hunga Tonga suddenly erupted and shot so much water into the upper atmosphere that levels in the stratosphere rose suddenly by at least 10%. It was a genuine one in 100, even 200 year event and was reasonably expected to produce temporary weather changes around the globe. Sure enough, subsequent temperatures showed a 0.3-0.4°C upward spike.

Ian Bradford: Anthropogenic carbon dioxide does not cause global warming or climate change - here's the reason

A meteor- the Chelyabinsk meteor was a super bolide that entered the Earth’s atmosphere over the southern Ural region in Russia on the 15th February 2013. The meteor was approximately 18 m in diameter and weighed about 9,100 tonnes. Its speed on passing through the Earth’s atmosphere was 54,000 km/hr. The light from the meteor was briefly brighter than the sun. The object exploded in an air burst at a height of about 30km. The explosion generated a bright flash, producing a hot cloud of dust and ash that penetrated up to 26km above the Earth.

Chris Morrison: Science Shock - CO2 is Good for the Planet, Peer-Reviewed Studies Suggest

Dramatic evidence has been published in a number of recent science papers that carbon dioxide levels are already ‘saturated’, meaning little or no further warming is to be expected and rising CO2 levels are all beneficial.

Half of human emissions are being quickly pushed back into the biosphere, the scientists say, causing substantial, famine-busting plant growth, while the rest is entering a ‘saturated’ atmosphere and having a minimal effect on global temperatures. One of the papers accepting the human involvement in rising CO2 is published by the CO2 Coalition, which notes: “We like CO2, so should you.”

Ian Bradford: Climate Skeptics and Global Temperatures

Weak scepticism about the climate is the world’s greatest unrecognised crisis.

If you think up a list of the world’s biggest problems what is the one which gets the least attention?  It may well be weak scepticism.  It’s a planet wide plague that slows human progress.  Weak scepticism goes unnoticed because it is so pervasive and has been a normal part of the landscape for so long. One example that frustrates science literates, is that almost half of American adults believe the Earth is less than 10,000 years old. Every day unknown numbers of people suffer because they trust medical quackery over evidence based medicine. Democracies often produce incompetent leaders because too many people are in the habit of accepting and believing before they think and vote. Every moment, somewhere, children are taught speculative nonsense packaged as confirmed facts. But the root problem for all of this –scarcity of skeptical thinking – is rarely acknowledged, much less addressed in any meaningful way. Few parents encourage their children to be skeptical thinkers.  Most teachers don’t teach it and politicians never talk about it. This is the world’s great unrecognised crisis.

Ian Bradford: It is most likely going to get colder not warmer

The IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), is a scientific body under the auspices of the United Nations.  It was established in 1988. The IPCC produces reports that support the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).  IPCC reports contain a Summary for Policy Holders- the most cited documents.

Ian Bradford: What Next? Climate Vaccines for Cows and Climate Injections for Humans!!

In New Zealand, two AgResearch scientists have been working on a vaccine for cows to stop them producing Methane.  They have been wasting time on this for 15 years and  have received $31 million to carry out this research. Money that could have been much better spent on hospitals, or education, or police, and so on.

Climate Change Commission chairman Rod Carr says Methane reducing technologies have great potential to cut Methane further than farming adaptation can achieve.

Clive Bibby: The cheap clean energy myth.

If the IPCC was really committed to the clean, green energy programmes that are being promoted in countries that can afford to indulge its ideology, it should at least be prepared to put up answers to questions about the reliability and affordability of these progeny of Climate Change.

One only has to look around the world at countries that are currently lead by the sycophantic believers of these false prophets to realise how most of their projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions through the introduction of wind, solar and other costly alternative energy sources to the national grid have failed - and in some cases where the existing energy supplies are fossil fuel based that are being totally replaced with clean energy sources, the prescribed alternative is worse than the problem it was meant to cure.

Ian Bradford: Nothing But Climate Propaganda

I have been forcing myself to watch TV1 news, mainly so that I know what they are putting out. On Wednesday 17th July I sat in my lounge fuming with yet more climate propaganda these people are putting out to the gullible masses. There is barely a night goes by when TV1 doesn’t feature a flood in some country, or make an issue out of a high temperature somewhere. Of course the above are weather events not climate. It seems someone is prompting them to keep the climate scare going.

Viv Forbes: Welcome the Warmth

At dawn today (30th July) mid-winter in sunny Queensland, it was zero degrees on the lawn outside our kitchen and the small water tub for our chooks was iced over.

Every morning, as soon as it gets light, Judy puts a winter coat over her jamas, adds gloves, glasses, rubber boots, a beanie and a walking stick (icy grass is very slippery). She then trudges down the hill to check any new-born lambs and then lets the sheep out of their dingo-proof night-camp into their paddock for the day. As soon as they are let out, they dribble into a long line and, led by the wisest old ewe, they wend their way across the frosty flat and then make their way up the hill to the highest point facing the morning sun.

Professor Robert MacCulloch: Have Swarbrick's Greens actually had zero environmental impact....

Have Swarbrick's Greens actually had zero environmental impact, and simply just thrown thousands into poverty?

What has been the greatest source of greenhouse gas emissions in NZ these past six years? The CO2 expelled in hot air from the Greens & their travels to and from Wellington, and around the world? Has the Green Party contributed next to nothing in terms of reducing NZ's contribution to global emissions, yet added significantly to poverty & poor local environmental outcomes (like sewerage going into our harbors) by wasting resources on irrelevant projects, with small pay-offs to NZ? Here's some evidence - it comes in the form of this pie-chart of our emissions profile:

Ian Bradford: Large sea level rises? No. Just more scaremongering.

Isn’t sea level rise a matter of common sense?  How any reading this article can say they have seen significant sea level rise in their lifetime?  I know of three beaches that are actually building out. I’m sure there are others.

Let’s begin with a UN headline from 1989.

UN predicts disaster if global warming not checked.

Ian Bradford: What a Joke

Reducing emissions as directed by the UN/IPCC and the Greenies, is actually warming the Earth.

It’s all to do with Aerosols.  In the atmosphere, aerosols in general,  block the sun’s radiation from reaching the Earth.  Aerosols are actually small particles or droplets, that float in the air.  They come in many forms, both natural and industrial and include, sea salt, mineral dust, ash, sulphates, nitrates and black carbon (soot). So we are talking about wildfire smoke, volcanic gases, and many human activities. Soot has a warming effect but this is well overshadowed by the cooling effect of the other aerosols.  In fact no one has taken much note of the cooling effect of aerosols, but scientists lately have found that their cooling effect may be greater than realised.
