Clive Bibby: Triumph over adversity - Who would have thought

If nothing else is learned from Donald Trump’s impressive comeback election victory, the overriding takeaway is that if your case is based on the truth, it will ultimately prevail. 

In spite of the false charges laid during repeated attempts to destroy him politically, emotionally and physically, Trump has remained true to himself.

In the end, his fight against the tyranny and corruption of the establishment was vindicated in a way that few before him have achieved. 

Trump never attempted to be anything other than the champion of the common man but by doing so has single-handedly rewritten the political playbook in the US and probably influenced changed loyalties in other countries of the free world where the political framework has been turned on its head. 

We now see political parties that had been dominated by traditional classes within society changing sides in a mass upheaval of the political landscape. 

So, no surprise then that the Republican Party, once the sole preserve of the rich and famous white upper class now being replaced by a mixture of non graduate, Black, Hispanic, middle income workers who once swore allegiance to the Democratic Party. 

Trump has created a movement, the likes of which we have not seen since Martin Luther King led the charge against racism in America. 

While it is too early to say that he has “ drained the swamp” as he promised to do, you might as well admit that the corrupt remnants of the ruling classes are about to get their marching orders.

My guess is that his nominations for key cabinet posts will be confirmed before he takes office which will leave the pathway clear for a complete reversal of policies that have served only a minority of self appointed corrupt politicians. 

Their time in the sun is over.

Trump has earned the right to become the most influential political figure at home and on the World stage since Winston Churchill.

Let’s hope those he has chosen to help bring about peace and prosperity to a troubled world are up to the task. 

His election as the 47th President of the United States heralds a different leadership style than his first term in office.

This time, he is backed by those he knows he can trust and with control of all three houses of government anything is possible. 

Experience in government is a wonderful thing and it will be the one ingredient he now has that he lacked in his first term. 

No more will he have to battle threats to his incumbency from within his own party or the constant attacks about his legitimacy or whether he had committed  crimes while in office. 

Fortunately the accusers have been found out as false prophets and are now struggling to survive in a world that no longer recognises their relevance. 

It would be funny to watch them squirm if we did not have better things to do. 

Good riddance l say. 

I believe we are about to witness the dawn of a new era. 

History will record it as the day when the tide changed for the better. 

We should all want to be part of the effect it will have on those who need it most. 

I will be eighty years old in a few days and had given up hope of ever seeing  a time like this. 

Bring it on.
