Bob Jones: Trans-Rights mobs not just sexually confused

The shouting turnouts in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch were obsessed in their cries and placards with “rights”. The indisputable fact is that trans folk have exactly the same legal rights as everyone else. Their cry is for extra ones, such as for blokes who think they’re women, to use women’s toilets and compete with them in sport, despite their physical advantages. They can flounce and bellow all they wish but those things are never going to happen, not the least because women understandably won’t tolerate it.

George Beyer’s name was much bandied about. I knew George from when he was about 5 years old, his adopted father being a close friend. I recall him as a very polite little boy.

Then after a long gap I ran across him at a Government House function in 1993 when he called out to me. The first thing he said as he approached was “Call me George, Bob”. George wasn’t the brightest but maintained an uncomplaining approach and let nothing stand in his way in putting his hand up for public office.

The newspaper reported many ridiculous comments, such as one from someone called Tabby Besley on behalf of a charity supporting rainbow young people.

Tabby declared the protest which saw Posie Parker pelted with paint, abuse and physical threats was “a clear message of spreading love, not hate”. She may believe that but it was indisputably the opposite.

One world-class piece of rubbish proffered up was a mind-blowingly stupid article by former journalist Deborah Coddington in the Sunday Times.

Deborah recounted the extraordinary contribution by Alan Turing in the 2nd World War but how he, a homosexual, eventually committed suicide, following his prosecution, homosexuality then being illegal.

What relevance this had to the issue wasn’t explained. Presumably Deborah is implying that somewhere there’s a bloke in a dress who perhaps may discover a miracle drug, but only if he’s allowed to use women’s toilets, failing which he’ll top himself.

No-one is stopping blokes who think they’re women from wearing dresses etc. Again, it’s down to two key issues, namely using women’s toilets and competing in women’s sport, these being things the vast majority of women and sports bodies understandably object to.

An immensely more sensible article was written in the Sydney Morning Herald by senior journalist Jacqueline Maley. Its heading “Let women speak. Anti-activists don’t give a damn about our (women’s) rights”.

As a libertarian I believe people should do as they wish but never at the expense of others. Note for example, the only political party ever to come out openly for homosexual law reform, homosexual practise being illegal here up until 1985, was the New Zealand Party I headed. It was part of our manifesto of social and economic reforms all of which were adopted by the incoming Lange government which is why we closed the party, its job done.

P.S. Lots of chaps wear feminine attire in private, albeit not wishing to use women’s toilets. Prominent Lower Hutt lawyer David Butler for example, frequently dons a ball-gown while well-known Wellington identity Chris Gollins likes getting about in a tutu on the weekend. Each to their own is my philosophy.

That's true about lots of men liking to dress as women. Many years ago a manager I worked with came to work unashamedly with nail polish still clearly visible. He said he didn't have any remover but I think he was flaunting it a bit. We all knew that he went to parties dressed as a woman. However he was attending to customer transactions at the public counter and I was worried he would have someone complain. So I went out and bought some remover to try to save him from trouble. He was reluctant to use it. In his spare time he drove buses and trains as a hobby.
One of my sons who is a hunting, shooting, fishing man also likes to go to get togethers where all the men are dressed as women and have feminine names that they call each other. There are no actual sexual acts involved.
None of them are hurting anyone else so let's live and let live.
Men and women cross dressing is as old as history...oh that's right we have new history now. Where men can actually be women and vice versa. Say it and make it so.

Thanks for stating the obvious regarding equal rights, the basic facts seem to be ignored by the Pavlovian activists lest they dampen their day out.

I think that what happened on Saturday was a test run, by the left, to gauge their effectiveness at shutting down anyone with contrary opinions.

Most of these activists don't know or care about why they are there, they get a safe adrenaline rush free from police interference and therefore legal consequence.

I can see them being deployed prior to the election to shut down political opponents of the current regime by either forcing cancellation of meetings or frightening off prospective attendees.

This is a serious threat to our democracy. It is a fascist tactic and, with the tacit approval of the police, it will be effective.

Bob, quoting you and summing it up clearly:

"trans folk have exactly the same legal rights as everyone else. Their cry is for extra ones, such as for blokes who think they’re women, to use women’s toilets and compete with them in sport"

Just because a biological man wants to wear woman's clothes, he is still a biological man. Transvestites have penises !!

its true that a lot of men disguise what they’re really about ,at the moment there is a bunch of Wellington guys pretending to be on a ktm motorcycle rally , in truth they use this as an excuse to drink excessively , dress up as transgenders and do despicable acts on each other , I understand you may be aquainted to one of them , I can also confirm Chris does wear a tutu, I witnessed this many times when neighbours , still everyone to their own .

Three key issues - Children in NZ are prescribed puberty blockers from age 12, and surgery from age 16. We have one of the highest puberty blocking prescription rates. This issue urgently needs attention.

I have met large, unstable, aggressive men in dresses and high heels that I would no like to meet in a men's toilet or locker room. My daughter is still afraid of men in dresses and lipstick; and she would be most unhappy to meet even a small one in a public toilet.

Every person born carries a chromosome in every one of the 3 billion or so cells that make up their body. These cannot be altered so you are always the gender with which you were born. You may undergo surgery, take drugs or cross dress but your gender remains unchanged. You can learn to play the role of another gender and many have carried this off acceptably but Jan Morris, Georgina Beyer and dozens of other outstanding people who have done this remind us that it is not gender that determines your quality as a person but your character as a human being.
