Peter Dunne: Labour and Greens need Te Pati Maori

Rawiri Waititi is absolutely correct when he says there will be no one-term government without Te Pati Māori. At no point since the last election have Labour and the Green Party been polling strongly enough to contemplate forming a government without the inclusion of Te Pati Māori. And even if Te Pati Māori were to be involved, there have only been three occasions, according to the polls, since the last election when the left bloc would have had the numbers to form a government, were there to have been an election.

Dr Bryce Edwards: Democracy Briefing - The Māori political class is failing its people

On Monday, Mariameno Kapa-Kingi announced publicly she was leaving Te Pāti Māori to form the Te Tai Tokerau Party. The announcement was framed in the language of mana motuhake, regional self-determination, and wahine leadership. It was, she said, the approach she and her team decided was best for them.

David Farrar: Te Pati Maori expels two MPs

Te Pati Maori has expelled Tākuta Ferris and Mariameno Kapa-Kingi. I can’;’t recall if any party has ever before expelled two MPs at once, let alone a third of their caucus.

What is also unusual is there appears to have been no due process where they get to argue in their defence.

Matua Kahurangi: Nepotism, racism, and the audacity of silence

Mariameno Kapa-Kingi’s Parliamentary Shame

Mariameno Kapa-Kingi’s latest statement to her constituents is an exercise in deflection, obfuscation, and sheer political theatre. She writes with “aroha” and “humility,” claiming transparency, yet carefully sidesteps the elephant in the room: her own glaring nepotism and the toxic behaviour of her racist and allegedly violent son, Eru Kapa-Kingi.

Ani O'Brien: Civil war in Te Pāti Māori as the Kapa-Kingis come out swinging

The revolution is eating itself. Te Pāti Māori, the so-called uncompromising voice of Māori sovereignty, is turning inward, and the implosion is happening in real time. The movement that lectured Parliament about tikanga and collective leadership can’t seem to practise either. The façade of unity has cracked and beneath it lies a mess of ego, dysfunction, and factions.

Over the past 48 hours, the fractures have gone from rumour to reality. Two key developments have confirmed that the whare of Te Pāti Māori is visibly crumbling. These developments being Toitū Te Tiriti’s public split from Te Pāti Māori and open dissent coming from within the party’s own caucus.

Matua Kahurangi: Another step towards digital authoritarianism

Even Te Pāti Māori got this one partly right.

For possibly the first time in my life, I found myself agreeing, at least in part, with Te Pāti Māori. During yesterday’s debate in Parliament on the Budapest Convention and Related Matters Legislation Amendment Bill, Mariameno Kapa-Kingi made a few points that were, surprisingly, worth listening to.

Matua Kahurangi: Mariameno Kapa-Kingi wants to talk about Māori children

Just not the ones being murdered

In a recent video shared by the ACT Party, a revealing exchange unfolded between ACT MP Karen Chhour and Te Pāti Māori MP Mariameno Kapa-Kingi. During a recent discussion, Kapa-Kingi insisted the focus remain solely on Māori children, stating, “You’re assuming that they’re the same as everyone else, and we’re not.”

David Farrar: TPM now threatening violence

The Herald reports:

Act leader David Seymour is condemning an “immature” challenge to a charity fight from prominent Treaty activist Eru Kapa-Kingi.

In a video posted to social media yesterday, Kapa-Kingi took exception to Seymour calling his mother, Te Pāti Māori MP Mariameno Kapa-Kingi, an “idiot” during the House’s debate on the Regulatory Standards Bill last week.

Matua Kahurangi: Te Pāti Māori’s vile racism stains parliament once again

In a shaameful (sic) outburst in Parliament today, Te Pāti Māori MP Mariameno Kapa-Kingi spewed more anti-Pākehā venom, snarling at Pākehā MPs, “And you’re welcome that you get to live here at all.” The implication? They’re mere guests in New Zealand, tolerated only by her grace. This is raw, unfiltered racism on full display.

Suze: Which Waka You In, Bro?

In the culture stakes, the Māori waka is streets ahead of anyone else.

Karen Chhour is frequently accused of not understanding Māori culture and last week it was more of the same when Chhour presented a bill introducing sentencing for a new category of criminals known as “young serious offenders” and opened the door for military bootcamps. Māori offenders are disproportionately represented in the youth justice system.

Ele Ludemann: Are Maori not New Zealanders?

A disturbing example of separatism was on display at Parliament on Wednesday:

. . . “They’re not New Zealanders. They are Māori children. And you just don’t get that,” Te Pāti Māori MP Mariameno Kapa-Kingi told Children’s Minister Karen Chhour, during a heated hearing at the social services and community select committee earlier in the day.

Winston Peters: On remarks by Māori Party MP Mariameno Kapa-Kingi

On Wednesday last week Māori Party MP Mariameno Kapa-Kingi gave a general debate speech in the House with this opening sentence, “No matter my words today, the Government will not waver in its mission to exterminate Māori.”

David Farrar: Why have the media ignored this outrageous speech?

Read the whole tweet (below). A Member of Parliament got up in the House and said the Government (which has a Cabinet which is 35% Māori) wants to exterminate Māori. Has the media reported this, with the editorials decrying such nonsensical and abusive language?
