Denis Hall: Left and Right!

Politics - has become a dirty word. It was supposed to be a place where we could discuss the pros and cons of the governmental systems we live by - and by and large it had been agreed that the overarching thing that ruled us all - despite political parties attempts to modify it - was/is Democracy - with a capital D.

DEMOCRACY!

Why Democracy? Simple answer - one man one vote regardless of who we might be. Rich man poor man - each gets only one vote. Each man or woman gets their say. Brown man white man - each gets only one vote - man or woman - all at an age of maturity - all get one vote.

THE MOST FAIR AND SUCCESSFUL POLITICAL SYSTEM IN THE HISTORY OF CIVILISATION!

One man one vote - end of debate. all debate takes place inside that simple equation. one man one vote - put them all in a hat - count them under supervision by all sides - and the result is that who gets the most votes - therefore the most support - wins - until the next election.

There it is - one man one vote - and regular elections - no matter what.

And the same should apply to political discussions. Every opinion is valuable and should be heard. When the other side refuses to let you have your say - they subvert The principals of Democracy!

BUT - within that frame work - we can see that people on one side of that equation really are working to subvert that basic premise - and their method of operation is to accord more time and space and leeway for some voices - and then more power to certain votes - and the qualification for that is - ETHNICITY - and by all and any standards THAT IS RACISM!

And if the votes are still not there they want to organise a separate "SPECIAL" votes with a different level of power - or indeed all power - which in the end negates the need for a vote at all - and with that Democracy - is denied on racial grounds.

Every other country in the world calls that RACISM!

In New Zealand society - we call these "SPECIAL" votes - “MAORI WARDS”. They are created out of the concept that for whatever reason - maori don’t win enough. The other trick is to give them (in the case of three waters and the health system reforms) 50% of the votes - and a casting vote - that assures they will always win.

That’s just the first step - watch out for a more invasive changes in the voting system - that logic tells us will come with these racist reforms.

All that above - going on as we speak - subverts the basic democratic premise - that being - that each and every man has a vote of equal power - thereby ensuring that the democratic process works for all - because if it is adjusted to work better for some - or only benefits some - on the basis of any reason including race - it is no longer a fair vote - and therefore the Democracy has been subverted - and is redundant.

Now that above could stand alone - because it is fundamental to what we all believe we should have - but it seems we no longer have it.

What are we going to do about that?

Is it racist of me for even mentioning any of that?

Shall we ask Jacinda.

Denis Hall describes himself as an old man and an artist - a thinker - a writer - and a commentator. He does what he does - for the love of it.

You're absolutely right of course Denis, but it seems a significant cohort of the population are either too stupid, naive, complacent, or perhaps just plain corrupt to appreciate the seriousness of the situation. We thinkers can only despair.
