Professor Robert MacCulloch: Jack Tame Writes Non-Objective Nonsense......

.....about the demise of Newshub. Is it because he doesn't want to fall foul of his industry mates?

Jack Tame has written an article for State-owned broadcaster, OneNews, about the fall of Newshub. The article is not objective. It appears to be about Tame not wanting to fall foul of his industry chums. But doesn't he have an obligation in his position to report objective facts & not biased, self-preserving propaganda? For example, he says:

"No one is suggesting that those affected are in any way to blame for the situation – indeed, Newshub often distinguishes itself with the quality of its journalism and reportage – but economic conditions and changing audience habits make it an unsustainably unprofitable venture in the eyes of its foreign owner".

This blog has given an economics-based reason why Newshub failed. There's overcrowding in the market to provide leftist commentary (by OneNews, Stuff, Newshub, Radio NZ & Herald). Most Kiwis have had a gutsful of it, as evidenced by the election result. When you look at it this way, the folks most responsible for bankrupting Newshub are Tame & his mates at OneNews. Why? Since OneNews reports extremely similar left-biased content to Newshub's. It's practically indistinguishable - and Tame & his OneNews mates are paid by subsidies from taxpayers. It's comical OneNews reporters now say they're sad to see Newshub go. Those very same reporters bear a large part of the responsibility!

What's more, saying "no-one" is suggesting those affected are in any way to blame is untrue. Thousands of NZers believe the journalists at Newshub are directly to blame - as evidenced by a vast number of comments and internet chatter, as well as articles published on sites like NZ Centre for Political Research, Basset Brash & Hide, The Platform and Reality Check Radio. Do these outlets not exist in Tame's world? Do they count for nothing and amount to "no-one"? Thousands are blaming the four letter words Newshub put on its platform to describe National's policies, calling David Seymour a liar, and one-sided attacks on the new coalition that have been going on leading up to - and after - the election. Don't report your personal opinion, Tame - report the news and facts on the ground.

News Hub allowed Willie Jackson in a breakfast interview this week call David Seymour "Dumb " without a caution or denial from the interviewer .
It is NOT funny and Seymour is working extrordinarily hard to assist NZ through the Waitngi Treaty malaise.
I believe Willie Jackson is quite unreasonable when in full voice and just not needed in public , his shock jock ilk will not be missed . Add to that Ginny Anderson who is sadly out of touch with reality.

Very well said and heres hopping Tane and his mates are next none of them gives a ballanced view and there in is the reason only a very small number of people watch the news these days or any other tv. News papers are in the same boat and who will miss them.

No more taxpayer funding for tame or any of them. Who watches tv now anyway? Why should we pay for a sevice we don't use. If tv1 and tv2 shit down tomorrow who.would care?

Thank you. Well said. I am so grateful that you, and others, provide a voice of sanity to oppose the woke and the credulous.

Completely agree, I’ve commented on this many times on this website.
The general public are mainly conservative in their views and the left wing media are trying to sell them ideas of the left. Who will buy it? Who will consume that tripe?
Not many, so off with the TV and don’t buy the left wing print commentary.
As a business model it’s pretty crap.
They won’t accept it though Robert, you can point it out till you’re blue in the face. Let’s see how a good dose of unemployment changes their point of view.

So poor old soon to be unemployed Tova is upset that Mellissa Lee was insufficiently compassionate to her and her associates . "Tone deaf" Tova called her.

And Tova clearly thinks a Government bailout is in order. She states " and if this Government doesn't take notice, and take action, News Hub won't be the last.

The politics suggest a bailout as unlikely , News Hub was about unbiased as Al Jazeera.

And the economics also suggest a bailout is unlikely . Doesn't she realise that's what got got the last lot the boot, amongst other things, spraying money round like a fire hose.

What did Tova report on , cake decorating , flower arranging ? Certainly politics or economics isn't one of her strengths.

Finally, hubs demise started when when reporters inserted they're own ideology into news stories instead of reporting and leaving readers to decide on the rights, wrongs or otherwise. I gave up watching tv1 and three news and current affairs programing 5 years ago when all this so called wokeness started

For Willy Jackson to call David Seymour " dumb " is actually very funny -

I am sure David would politely say " Willy is entitled to his opinion" as is the public - whose view of WJ would be unprintable.

Sooo I'm guessing these low life lefty reporters now want the life's of me to bail them out and allow them to continue their biased reporting......interesting.

No thanks, good riddance. Oh, I take my coffee white with one thanks Tova!

If tv1 shuts down and the taxpayer funding stops, then the market will decide. The new media will have to provide content that the public wants to watch.

It was only a couple of months ago that Willie Jxn wanted the taxpayers to stump up with $330M to merge the TVNZ and Radio NZ newsrooms.
The actual cost of that would have been $0 of above line costs
But Willie would have made those hundreds of millions just disappear without trace.
Back in the 80s when TV3 was granted a license for the first private channel those in the business knew that TV3 was dubiously profitable.
It first went bust in about a year.
And that was before NZ on Air gave taxpayers money to a private company for programming - nowhere else in the world !
So it has come to pass.
Absolutely no bail out at all should be considered by Luxon and co.
As for TVNZ, as a state owned enterprise, once upon a time, they paid the government a dividend - now with their complete mis-management, it needs propping up by the public.
What a shambles !

Considering that Tova is the death nell for any media that she is involved with, could we please find a spot for her at TVNZ after she has committed Harri-Kari on Stuff?
