Both of us can look back across the history of New Zealand and the rise and rise of Gangs that have Maori affiliation, where the 'membership arises from', who within Maoridom have and still do - support them, those of the Pakeha domain who also support them, and the Police from the time of the gangs beginning have not - I repeat not- taken steps to mitigate the rise & influence of these groups, and like wise the groups that had origins in Australia, until the Australian Govt deported them (the 501's)- with the 'tag - criminal element', when arriving here in NZ, set up shop.
It is interesting to read, when reported upon by the NZ MSM, that The Comanchero's, a group who are part of the Australian 501 removal system, have 'frequent visits from NZ Police', but you do not see the same reporting on club room visits to either Black Power & or Mongrel Mob. With the latter group, the MSM covered their 'reclaiming Te Mata peak', Havelock North, this 'dear hill' suddenly became sacred land for Maoridom, in Hawke's Bay, following an issue with Craggy Range Wines and their attempt to build (legally agreed to by Hastings Council) - a walking track up the side of the said Hill and into the Township of Havelock North.
My suggestion is both our New Govt & The NZ Police should look to what the State Govt/ Western Australia have done - by Govt Legislation - aimed at the gangs and their domains/operations etc. AND The WA Police make it work.
On that note, I wonder how many New Zealander's would know that one of the gangs in Western Australia, that cause 'some grief to Police' - is a NZ Black Power gang - the members have resided in Perth for some years - they get the same treatment as the other do.
I do note of recent, that our Police are interested in Laws applicable to firearms, they believe the NZ gangs have - hmm - did we not have an arms amnesty following the Mosque attack??
Bob good to see you back. If I could just make one thing happen it would be to make the left the recipients of their actions. Ie only those that voted for greens, labour and maori, would get beaten up, stabbed, ram raided- because that's what they want, that's what they voted for. Why is it that I, who does not want this get assaulted, and the crim gets let off...it should have been a leftie who was assulted in my place. Only then may they see the stupidity of their views and actions.....if only it happened to the left I'm sure they would abandon their ideological ways rather quickly.
Sadly "locking up the gangs" is pie in the sky stuff. If only we could but they outnumber the police and our prison facilities do not have the capacity to hold them even if the police could control them. They daily demonstrate that crime does pay and the police are less powerful than they are. Like many other countries we have to accept they predominate in some areas and all we can do is avoid those areas and turn a blind eye to their activities. Their unfortunate victims receive tea and sympathy and a warning to let them fester in the pit of their own criminality. It seems to be a war that law-abiding citizens are losing.
