I tuned in to TV One on Tuesday night for the debate, that in itself a rare event, indeed probably the first time this year that I’ve viewed TVNZ. But not for long. I lasted 10 minutes.
The appalling moderator Jessica Mulch or Muck or some such name, screeching and bellowing Barbarian while Hipkins simultaneously babbled at 100 words a minute, saw me quickly tune out and pick up my book.
This Jessica woman’s speech brought to mind a startling last year’s news item, downplayed but the press at the time.
That was an American poll in which the public listened to 100 plus different speakers and declared New Zealand women had the worst speech in the world. Listening to Jessica certainly justified that poll but then again, she’s hardly typical.
The next day I read the various who won the Debate? comments.
The Herald’s Political editor Claire Trevett, former editor Shane Currie, senior political writer Audrey Young and deputy Political editor Thomas Coughlan, all declared in favour of Luxon.
From everything I’ve read about the debate my pick for the winner would be David Seymour as the whole thing sounded rather bad.
Hipkins has an impossible task defending our worst post-war government by a country mile. If Labour can manage 20% in the election he will have done well.
The country is in need of numerous changes and only ACT is offering them. I suspect the big shock in the election will be how well ACT does.

I knew it would be bad so I didn't watch it. Let's face it, none of the answers mean much if you've already done your research and reached the conclusion that both our major parties are broken and need a massive overhaul.
And the trouble with all TV news presenters in NZ is they think that we care what they personally say and think. They have such a one-eyed, high opinion of themselves that they subject us to long, pointless intros and questions, then interrupt the interviewee incessantly just in case we'd rather listen to them.
For the few that subjected themselves to this torture by MSM, I can only be grateful on your behalf that Mikey Sherman didn't host it. Her voice, although not as patronising as Jessica Mutch-Machete's, has the ability to grate on you so that the mute button on your remote becomes your BFF in short order.
As little as 18 months ago few would have bet $10 on a right wing alliance winning this election, National were in such total disarray.
Never have I seen such poverty, hardship and hopelessness in this country. Such factors are normally the harbinger of a left wing government.
That Mr Luxon has managed to steer National into such a strong position as it is now is surely remarkable.
And with the left wing bias of the media in this country it wood not take much to spook many back to the left.
Perhaps Mr Luxon believes it's smart to keep his cards close too his chest for now. Secure the victory then announce broader policy detail.
Or as Sir Bob would say, keep his chin down ,his guard up elbows in and jab with his left.
Just 3 weeks to go folks !
Dear Sir Robert.
This "Missive" comes to you from the The Scientific Emporium of the Detached Television Watcher.
Our Objective is to "watch closely, observe from a distance, listen intently, to those who "are affected by the current display of trivial Programes, News, Views & Opinion pieces "that currently prevail across the NZ Television Medium".
Our prescription for those "who are so affected by the usual nonsense "is to "turn of the television and only seek our approval as when to turn it on".
For those who over look this criteria and sadly we see that you have, that is turned on the telly to TVNZ - we implement strict rules and in most cases, will send our "Team" around to the residence and remove the telly - No more Coronation Str/EastEnders/Emmerdale Farm/Neighbor's/The Simpsons/Seinfeld - sorry got carried away.
N.B - You are not the only one who "found the Leaders Team Debate" a big Yawn.
Why have a chairperson? She acted like a ringmaster with two performing ponies. They are both capable of a worthwhile exchange of ideas without needing a presenter. Instead it became Jessica's show.
Bob, I actually didn't mind it (I hope that not a bad reflection on me) as it seems a lot turned off the box.
What really annoyed me was tvnzs expert panel which consisted od tau henare, mikie Sherman and David Cundiff. The left stacked it with lefties. Disgraceful and no chance of balanced views. Credibility is important to the vast majority of people, just not the left and the last shred of tvnzs credibility is long gone.
Let's see at the next debate if they still have only leftie 'experts'.
Yes, Jessica Too Much (McKay), was indeed too much and overbearing. I'd like to think/hope you're right in your predictions Bob, as the thought of Luxon 'unbridled' is, indeed, way 'too much' for me.
