In a recent speech president-elect Donald Trump slammed the World Health Organization (WHO), saying it had become a “corrupt globalist scam” under heavy influence from China.
Trump suggested that while the United States contributes significantly more financially to the WHO than China, it has little control over its policies, which he claims are aligned with Chinese interests.
“When the China virus reached our shores three years ago the World Health Organization disgracefully covered the tracks of the Chinese Communist Party every single step of the way.”
He cited his 2020 decision to withdraw the U.S. from the WHO as an important step in challenging what he described as an imbalance, arguing that the U.S. paid approximately $500 million annually for 330 million people, compared to China’s $40 million for 1.4 billion people.
Trump also criticised Joe Biden’s decision to rejoin the WHO without negotiating reforms or reducing the U.S. financial commitment. According to Trump, Biden “foolishly” returned the U.S. to the WHO “at full price” and is now pushing a new Pandemic Treaty that Trump says would jeopardise U.S. sovereignty. Trump said the treaty would require the U.S. to send medical supplies abroad during future pandemics and would promote restrictions on free speech concerning public health matters.
Trump pledged that if he were re-elected, he would immediately terminate the treaty, withdraw the U.S. from the WHO, and seek to establish a coalition of nations that prioritise both public health and national sovereignty. Trump said he was against “global government” and stated, “Under the next Trump administration, that treaty [ie. known as the ‘WHO Pandemic Treaty] will be immediately terminated.”
“The US will withdraw from the corrupt WHO which, in light of its utter failure in COVID (they made a tremendous disaster on COVID), deserves to be completely abolished and replaced,” said Trump.
Significant concerns are being raised about the WHO’s Pandemic Treaty, which critics argue, among other things, will infringe upon national sovereignty by granting the unelected globalist body sole authority to enforce draconian “pandemic response measures” without accountability.

I'm not a fan of Trump but he is right about this.
Just another ignorant rant from the treaty-breaker in chief. But hardly news. Trump announced a withdrawal of all US funding for WHO in 2020 so at least he's being consistent. But a month later he agreed to continue contributions, albeit at a lower level. Nevertheless, in the 2020-2021 biennium, the US was still the second largest contributor to WHO with a 9.7% share. WHO's own publications show Germany was first with a 14.4% share and interestingly, the third largest was the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, with an 8.4% share. And the Gates Foundation had no legal obligation to contribute a single dollar! Just pause for a moment there and reflect that much of the Gates' contribution was spent buying vaccines to eradicate polio and thereby helping save millions of lives. By way of contrast, Trump lost a million American lives to COVID on his watch by denying the effectiveness of vaccines. I know whose funding decisions I would trust. And think how embarrassing it must be for Trump to acknowledge that the country he was making great again was so impoverished it couldn't afford to spend as much as Bill Gates on keeping the world healthy. So I don't take a lot of notice of Trump''s latest theatricals. He was lying then and he's lying now.
Come on.
Where is all the support.?
Time for NZ to stand up to this corrupt body and extract our country from continued suppression and leftist dictates.
NZ needs to get out of the WHO and a few other globalist radical leftist groups. Trump doesn't have to drain the swamp, the swamp is doing it for him. I just hope they don't come to NZ. TRUMP all the way
Oh to have leadership like this in NZ.
Why stop with the WHO ? It's "parent company" the UN is equally as corrupt & worthless & we all know about the WEF. Tell them all "your fired"...
The Paris Climate Accord is the other great burden on our lives that Trump distanced himself from. Oh to have similar leadership in this country.
Bill Gates also had shares in covid vaccines and had an excellent return from that. Why were younger people vaccinated when covid was of little risk to them ?The cardiac side effects and death in young people is a scandal since it is at far to high a rate to be acceptable. Big Pharma making money in an unscrupulous way is the issue. Read, on this site , Guy Hatchet's article to get another
perspective on the MSM narrative of covid. The deaths, attributed to covid and hence over countered were admitted only after the British Guardian newspaper investigated this. There was not going to ever be an acknowledgement of this until the authorities were caught out. People died with covid not because of covid.
None of this was allowed to be discussed on social media in case it caused vaccine hesitancy. The WHO is attempting to abolish national sovereignty of states which makes it plain this is not about
health but control.
Concerns about the WHO Pandemic Treaty are indeed fully warranted. Maintaining national sovereignty in decision-making is the core issue . This power should not be ceded to the WHO. The voting procedure at the WHO May 2024 conference was unusual - even irregular. Only 37 nations have expressed support. Great caution is required before proceeding. The Minister of Health should respond to requests to clarify NZ's position on this matter.
The WHO is a complete farce.
I struggle to understand the animosity directed to WHO which is essentially a humanitarian organisation dedicated to saving lives, and very good at what it does But a strong clue comes from the anti-vax views of the more hysterical WHO haters which are driven by their cult of science-denial. WHO is an obvious target for their spleen because everything it does is driven by scientific truth. I guess there are a lot of subscribers to the proposition that we live in a post-truth society where every proposition can be supported by Kellyanne Conway's "alternative facts" (Google it if I've lost you). But those sad folk fail to recognise that life is not a social construct where the truth is malleable and all opinions equally valid. Sometimes the truth can be very simple. COVID and a thousand equally deadly pathogens, will kill you if you argue with them. But fortunately for the vast majority of us, organisations like WHO will continue to work in the best interests of everyone, regardless of those science-deniers who think they know better and have survived to tell us about it. On the bright side, science-deniers remain useful, if only to provide potential nominees for next year's Darwin Awards.
What an incoherant jumble. You just don't like WHO because it accurately reported the world-wide death toll from COVID and showed which nations were doing well (New Zealand) and which nations were not (United States). And that did not suit the anti-vax narrative of the lunatic fringe. So don't talk to me about control. Anti-vaxxers are desperate to exercise control. Incidentally, I have yet to read about a virus that honoured national boundaries, so drop this rubbish about loss of sovereignty. COVID was an equal-opportunity killer whatever flag you pledged obedience to. A cross-border response was vital to understand the nature of the threat, create a response to the threat and implement that response. If anything warrants a loss of sovereignty, it's a pandemic.
David Bell's article written more recently on 'Breaking Views'' :"Global Health Reforms Must Go Far Beyond the WHO' is worth reading to get another perspective of the WHO , which David worked for. He is fairly condemning of many of its actions especially during covid . He does recognize some good they have done.
