Garrick Tremain: Media Negligence

I have been observing the main stream media for the past 60 years - closely for the past 35.

I have watched it go into hiding over the past 5 years, having sold its soul, its reason for being, and its responsibilities in exchange for the bribes offered by a government more evil and corrupt than previously imaginable in New Zealand.

With this ill-gotten largesse investigative journalism seems to have all but vanished.

Instead the media praise the facile talents of our Prime Minister whilst ignoring the obvious jeopardy of her policies.

They laud her shallow and glitzy persona and pass over her lies and modus operandi of deceit.

They side-step her government's litany of broken promises and failures in almost every area: housing, poverty, homelessness, race relations, education, health, etc, and we may soon add covid.

When we have a government determined to sacrifice democracy for tribal rule a responsible media would be cataloguing the success of such policy where it has been actioned  ie. in Rwanda or Zimbabwe.

But alas, a media suckled on the government breast has little need to support itself.

With a background in farming and advertising, Garrick Tremain is one of New Zealand's best known cartoonists and political commentators. You can see his work on his website HERE

The problem being now is that our politicians and media are on the same side. Not only that, there is a real blur between the policies of many of our parliamentarians. Instead of being definitively Blue or Red our political landscape has taken on a sort of brownish, mucky purple tinge.

Look how many National MPs say "Oh, poor Jacinda....don't be so mean...I might not agree with her policies but..."

What about the rest of us though who are having to put up with her inept governance?

It's like I have said before, this is not about Left versus Right. This is about the political class versus the plebs. They were all responsible for the decisions of the past three years whether directly or indirectly. Stands to reason then the politicians and media will stick together.

Yep. Corrupt is another way of putting things. Can anybody tell me what our Governor General is doing whilst all this is going down?

Thank you Garrick for stating this truth so bravely. We have become a nation of cowards apart from honest souls like you.

Very aptly put, thank you.
However you are “preaching to the converted” which is again compounding the issue of trying to get to the masses through the government and media propoganda.

Good to hear the thoughts behind the brilliant sketches. So agree.

It seems to be near impossible to get any Letter Editor to msm press published if it is critcal of govt policy or performance and/or of pro maori policy. Media is unashamedly run purely as a business. I understand there was a recent Stuff letter to stuff telling them to ease up on Covid matters as now a past topic!! Ironically, despite all modern communication devices, the avergae person is leass informed than in the 1920s when all read a newspaper. Biasses existed but not to the level of boycott of relevant topics.

This is all part of Cindy's plan to turn NZ into the China of the South Pacific. State run media, State run everything. As soon as you speak out you are silenced or in this case misinformation. The MSM in this country will have to be made accountable. Prison sentences come to mind. One of the best kept secrets is the suicide rate. Cindy and her bribed MSM don't won't the truth to be told about the suicide rate in this country because it is at an absolutely appalling record high.

Having worked in RNZ and private commercial radio and then in Newspapers, APN , I'm ashamed at what we're once world leading media have become. The reasons are many and start at the tertiary institutions who 20 years ago became infiltrated by left wing woke academics pushing thier own and organisation's agenda.
This has been reinforced by successive government policy, funding and the woke racist guilt brainwashed into all state run departments.
I used to be a print columnist but now no paper will print my opinions or letters anymore, so much for free speech.
We have a dumbed down population who believe the propaganda, I can't see National changing anything even if elected

We know that this blog would never see the light of day on any MSM, who may well be taken to account one day over their complicity with govt. narratives. and deliberate cover-ups. Is there a valid excuse for dereliction of duty to the people of n.z. What happens if the so-called "watchdog" seems to stop barking at dangers, and goes into bed?

the media bent has been going on for a long time. about 12 years ago some people i know wanted to put a full page advert in the nz herald at a cost of $6000.the herald would not do it as it was against their beliefs. the ad was to be about climate change. so nothing has changed and the irony is that jacinda didn't have to give them any money as the media is on her side already.
