Clive Bibby: While the chiefs squabble and scrap, troops deal with the real world.

Living as I do amongst some of Maoridom's finest which has taken me on a journey of discovery that has been life changing, I watch in disappointment as their “leaders” battle amongst themselves to see who can obtain the biggest scalp - even ones with no hair. Sorry Christopher, only joking!

Sadly, we have been and are likely to once again be witness to a demonstration of self destruction if and when the government politicians are stupid enough to venture into the “lion’s den” at Waitangi Marae next weekend.

Most of the hot air being expended during the lead up to the big day is coming from the usual suspects - the Maori radicals like Professor Margaret Mutu who consider it their mission in life to deliberately misrepresent the Government’s position on the Treaty as our founding document in order to give the impression that nobody is listening to their warped narrative of colonisation and suppression.

In reality, the only people who aren’t listening are those who have manufactured a tale of injustice that has little basis in truth or relevance to modern day issues affecting all citizens of this country.

I don’t know how many times, even during the last few weeks, we have been subjected to the distortions deliberately presented to a national audience, many of whom including I suggest, the bulk of honest hardworking Maori, just want the “false kaumatua” to get out of the way and let them get on with the daily battle they share with the rest of the nation - feeding their families while building their own special place in paradise.

It wouldn’t be so bad if the bulk of MSM carried out their responsibilities to impartially inform instead of abusing their position as “truth tellers” by continuing to promote a false narrative - albeit one that resonates with the idealogical persuasion of left wing groups throughout the free world.

It doesn’t seem to matter who or what the time or place - the right of centre position is always promoted as fascist who supposedly have little moral authority while the extreme left (terrorists, dictatorships, morally corrupt UN Agencies etc ) claim the moral high ground.

So, in that context, we should not be surprised if those who are repeatedly being drawn into fights not of their own making just carry on doing what what they believe is right and in the interests of the people they represent.

Consequently, hopefully the Government of this country and others in similar positions ie. Israel, would be well advised to ignore the noise from the chattering classes and just get on with the tasks they were elected to complete - which in most cases is simply to keep the people SAFE.

I have no doubt that the response to those commitments will be overwhelming support from all sectors of the community - even those that have traditionally voted for others with a markedly different idealogical agenda and found them wanting.

Just common sense really. Bring it on!

An interesting perspective of the "today of Maori Radical approach to the TOW". Nothing wrong with what has been stated, but sadly Clive many of your fellow 'traveler's, the other half of NZ are not really interested.

I would ask if you cast your eye across the Tasman, and looked at what was happening in Australia in the lead up to the vote on The Voice. If you did, did you you note who the main protagonists were - people with a similar background to what you stated in your article - both Academic, Aboriginal who had similarities to our radical Maori, support from Australian MSM and many influential business operations (mega bucks) and the other interesting factor was the number of white women who appeared at many of the demonstrations. Question where were the Aboriginal women?

Interestingly was the lack of asking the mainstream Aboriginal People, what they wanted, a similar approach to your comment - (quote) "subjected to the distortions deliberately presented to a national audience, many of whom including I suggest, the bulk of honest hardworking Maori, just want the “false kaumatua” to get out of the way and let them get on with the daily battle they share with the rest of the nation - feeding their families while building their own special place in paradise"(end quote).

What is more interesting is PM Albanese is still trying to "push" his agenda on this topic. Has a similar ring to Professor Mutu et al.

The forthcoming "welcome To Country" at Waitangi will be no different to what Helen Clark received and she had the whit the following Year to stay away.
