The curious thing is that everyone weighs in against campers yet there are myriads living from their cars. What facilities do they use? How do they fill the time? Are they all avid readers? many spend hours in public libraries eating, drinking and sleeping and scratching but do not read. Many regulations have made it dificult and possibly legally time consuming to rent out houses in mere prior 2000s conditon, as have served generations without undue problems. The old style cheap boarding houses also seem to have been hounded out of existance.
Quite right Anonymous. As a student I was grateful to live for a while in the back of a shed with a dirt floor because it was very cheap to do so. I even had a girlfriend come to stay with me at times. Now there is no cheap accommodation, the cost of underfloor insulation, heat pumps and other nanny state requirements all having to be factored in. Were the consequences (of higher rents and removal of choice for people wanting to live cheaply perhaps to save and get ahead) unintended? Probably not. They have pushed the population increasingly into becoming state beneficiaries beholden to socialist government that supplements their incomes so they can afford to pay high rents. The same socialist government that made the regulations to push rents up.
