With their respect for and pursuit of education, effort based ambition, industry, frugality, restrained young women, subdued profile etc the Tamils would seem to have little in common with maori, although there may be some parallels in business accounting. None look very impressed in the photos. I guess maori are trying to lure supporters before the Tamils, along with other industrious late colonists, find a more natural home with the Nats or Act or their own rival to Te Pahti.
And I don’t know what passes on commercial radio but RNZ now plays at all hours Alfred Hill derivatives, pop based bedlam, stone age derived chants, discordant wailings, kapahaka trial pieces etc at all hours. To the great chagrin of the loyal traditional majority listeners.
this identity politics lumping all 'tamils' is so dumb. instead of saying 'Tamil fraternity', it should correctly say 'Wellington-based Aotearoa New Zealand Federation of Tamil Sangams'. i have no idea how a group can claim to represent such a diverse group that is only tied together by a 'language'!
'decolonising and reindiginising' Spare me.
That would be OK if all the benefits decolonising has brought maori were returned.
While we have this crap going on, the country will never progress.
As an aside, Tamahere is a very wealthy man.
why stop at 'return' via 1$ lease?
why not 'return' it unconditionally?
why not give the entire district free back to those who sold it at what they might have considered a fair price?
why not ask all productive non-maori to leave the place and really 'own' the entire district?
where does this insanity come to an end?
With maori poised to take over control and probably ownership of water, the wai modules very timely.
How nice for cuddles-Coster.
This will warm the cockles of his heart.
Having listened to the Workman interview and another on The Platform the outcome of the Police study is entirely predictable. It could be done in a few weeks without reference to anybody else by Workman or myself, in the latter case with a saving of $1,995,000 .
Workman's interview statements can be challenged all the way through. Crime comparisons with societies devoid of maori or equivalent are meaningless. Tikanga maori was developed in small communal societies in circumstances totally different from today. Any perceived crime was resolved by cleaving of skull with a mere. Reoffending was minimal. We have prisons because we no longer have deportation (except from Oz) ducking, the stocks, hanging, etc. And for those averse to a law abiding working existence, instead of the workhouse we now have new, insulated, all mod cons apartments, or, for those with like minded partners, a multi bedroom house.
The finding will call for a separatist treatment of maori.
It is curious how all activists of the Ranginui Walker era and disciples distinguish themselves by pronunciation of the word "process ".
'private roads' need maori names - really? what's next? you can't name your own children unless it is approved by the kaumatua of the mana whenua???
From my observation the -15% have gotten 95% of the streets/roads/bridges named in their language over the past 5yrs.whats happened to the pacifica-asian-indian-european that make up the 85% with the white fella. We are just here to provide the handouts, and clean up the mess from the shootings, robberies, ram raids, and put up with the offensive statements from the radical maori politicians.
