Mike Hosking: It's time to move on from Covid

Could it be they have finally got the message?

We are not just going to Green; it isn't even a thing. Because, it appears, the whole mad Traffic Light System is going altogether.

As always, it's a game of tease and wait, no comment, hints, and more no comments.

When they finally sit down to work out Covid settings, whenever that is, given they officially only say a "couple of weeks”, but they have been saying that for over a week. But when they finally work it out, I have no doubt they'll announce an announcement of an announcement or date sometime that isn't the time they are making the initial announcement.

If we can be free of all this by Christmas, psychologically the country will be helped immeasurably. The psychological damage done to us over the past couple of years is a crime.

I still see people daily walking around with masks on outside in the fresh air. Not because it makes any difference, but because they have been bullied into certain behaviour they have never been bullied into before. We didn’t wear masks before, but we wear them now for a caseload that has plummeted and doesn’t affect us anymore.

The psychology of the Government finally cutting us loose will be good for everyone. It'll also be good for the tangibles like tourism as we join the rest of the world in the new normal.

The fact is the Traffic Light System was a con anyway. We were in Red and Orange at stages, but when you looked at the official guidelines as to what was needed or required for us to be in those settings, we weren't.

Rules got made up on the fly and the health system was strained, or not strained, based on politics not health.

It's one of the many things that has undone the Government in terms of honesty and credibility. We looked at the so-called rules, looked at the reality, and too often they didn’t match.

The fact we are still in Orange today is nuts. The fact the rules aren't followed by many around masks is no surprise. The fact they are still advertising boosters is equally mad.

Covid is over. Not literally, literally, it may never be over. But in terms of the power of us all moving on, it's over.

And the sooner the power freaks who have set all these mad rules unlock the shackles, the better.

The whole Covid lockdown and facemask strategy provides ample evidence of how people still blindly adhere to government instructions, regardless whether they make sense or not, and shows how easily controlled most people are.

Whether it's fear of Covid, fear of being the odd-one-out, or just fear of EVERYthing, most people comply.
Many complain privately but still do it. And then there are the obnoxious ones who boast and preen when they wear their facemasks in public.

Even though Covid seems to be sputtering to a halt, those in power will be comforted by this. When the next "crisis" comes along it should be so EASY to get everyone to toe the line.

Maiki Sherman of TV1 remarked on air about a comment I made to Chris Luxon when he spoke te rao at a school. I said "you have lost my vote Chris" Thats all, because I thought he was fawning to the maori for their vote.
Mizz Sherman made the comment it was Maori bashing and racist.
She asked Chris on air, on TV1 "what do you think of the racist comment "you lost my vote Chris".
Chris is white.
How does "lost my vote" become a racist comment?
I tried to send a message to Maliki, email rejected.
I tried sending it to Labour in parliament. Rejected
How can we get our voice accross if we cant talk to anyone, or go on air with our comments?

Totally agree Mike about the childish traffic light "system". It's been an embarrassment for the outset. With respect to masks, I agree it's way past time to trust people to take responsibility for their own health.

However, our household will continue to wear them when in crowded places, supermarkets etc as a matter of choice. We're in our 70s, haven't yet had Covid, and would like to continue the status quo.

I confess to not having followed the traffic light system and have no idea what it is supposed to do, having zero faith in either Ardern's junta or her coterie of sycophantic advisors. But it does appear to me there was a lost opportunity here to virtue signal their support for homosexuals, lesbians, cross-dressers and any one else who feels their sexual depravities have not been recognised. The traffic light system should have included the other colours in the spectrum. A strong yellow or pretty purple would have introduced greater subtlety into the lock downs. Changing the colour every few days equally would have kept it in the public's eye. Is it too late?
